March 20 is celebrate “Pakhal Divas” by Odias Worldwide. Pakhala is a special dish for Odia people which a special combination of rice mixed with water also prepared with curd, cucumber, onions and mint leaves and the liquid is known as Torani. It is popular in Odisha, Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. This is also known as Watered-rice in English. This is more delicious along with sabzi (bhaja in Oriya) and a pair of chilled mango slices. This traditional Odia dish is prepared with rice, curd, cucumber, cumin seeds, fried onions and mint leaves. It is popularly served with roasted vegetables—such as potato, brinjal, badi and saga bhaja or fried fish. This lunch is often preferred to beat the summer heat in Eastern India. Eating Pakhal has been recommended to prevent heat stroke in Summer.
